This mixed-use residential and service building is located in the Port Praski investment project, which is one of the largest property development projects under construction in Europe. This investment project spans nearly forty hectares in the very center of Warsaw near the Vistula river, the Old Town, the National Stadium and the Copernicus Science Center. Port Praski is a multi-functional city heralding a new generation and consisting of four districts: residential Old Praga, luxurious Docks sporting a marina, business and commercial City and Media Park. Green areas spanning nearly five hectares adorn this investment project to foster leisure time for all residents of Warsaw. Port Praski’s location in the vicinity of two underground stations, a railway station, numerous public transport stops and city bicycle stations offers another advantage in the form of excellent transport links to other parts of the city.
This building stands on the outer edge of the Port Praski property development. The building’s location marks a symbolic border between existing developments and the new city district under creation. We posited that the buildings standing along this border should simultaneously act as a connector and border point marker between old and new property developments, gently ushering people into the city’s new quarter. For that reason the building situated in this zone at the intersection of Sierakowskiego and Okrzei streets refers to the history of Old Praga while drawing on the architectural heritage of Warsaw from between the two world wars to obtain its scale, respect for architectural detail and material solutions. This facility’s urban magnitude is framed by the buildings reflecting the size of Old Praga’s tenement houses. Architecturally, this building refers to the tenement house line visible on the facades, in its shell and material solutions.
